Rustlers Weekend Recap - September 15, 2025
Rustlers athletics heads into week three after some great weather and a couple of wins.
Rustlers Soccer
Women's and men's soccer held a critical home-and-away series with Edmonton schools this weekend, with both teams looking for their first victory. On Saturday, they hosted the King's Eagles, whose women's squad was also hunting for a victory and men's team brought in an undefeated record.
Lakeland allowed one goal in the first half of the women's game, before some timely offence, including a great corner kick in from Chloe Bartel to Katelyn Dyck, help clinch a 2-1 win. Rookie Addison Allen was named POG. In the men's game, Josh Malin converted a penalty kick again, but they were unable to get the job done against the Eagles, losing 2-1. Jakob Thompson was the POG.
In Edmonton, the team's faced the Concordia Thunder, a juggernaut on the women's side and a program eager to make waves on the men's side. After the women lost 2-0, the men were able to come from behind to get their first W, 3-2. Guilherme Luqui had the winner on a penalty, while Vinny Da Silva and Mitchell Joyce also scored.
This leaves both teams with a 1-2 record.
Rustlers Hockey
Additionally, women's hockey had a four-game exhibition series at the Cenovus Energy Hub, facing the SAIT Trojans and the club team Cochrane Chaos. The Rustlers defeated SAIT 2-0 and 6-1, they also swept Cochrane 4-2 and 10-0.
