National Scholar Award Recipients Announced

Lakeland College once again has multiple academically high-achieving athletes and is focused on continuing this tradition in 2026.

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) announced the list of National Scholar Award Recipients today, recognizing student-athletes who achieved honours standing in academics while competing during the 2024-2025 campaign of intercollegiate athletics. Lakeland had 30 athletes who achieved honours this past season.

Athletics Director Alan Rogan said the department is pleased with the academic performance of the Rustler teams.

"We are extremely proud of our student athletes as they are not only excelling in their chosen sports but also in classroom."

Earlier this summer, the CCAA released the full list of Academic All-Canadian Award recipients, recognizing student athletes who have been named a conference or championship tournament all-star, while achieving a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher.

Josh Malin made the list for men's soccer, while men's volleyball had Brock Tomyn and women's volleyball produced three players for the award, Avery Bates, Raegen Nicol and Jenay Varga. These five athletes were all National Scholar recipients.
