Rustlers Weekend Recap - October 20, 2025
Rustlers Athletics gets closer to having all teams in action, as the heart of the ACAC season approaches.
Rustlers Hockey
The women's hockey team had a three-game homestand against the Olds Broncos over the weekend, looking to bounce back after their loss in Edmonton two weeks ago. On Friday, the Rustlers won handily 7-3, with Keyra Buziak, Claudia Lammers and Kyla Benjamin all scoring twice. Saturday was a more competitive affair, with Lakeland winning 3-1, followed by a 5-0 shutout on Sunday. Buziak had four more goals in the latter victory.
Rustlers Basketball
The basketball teams held their first two regular season games of the year at home against the Briercrest Clippers and Medicine Hat Rattlers. The women fell in both games, with Taylor Hebert and Reese Fenrich being named the Player of the Game on consecutive nights. On the men's side, Friday night was a classic, with the Rustlers coming from behind to tie the game at the buzzer, before losing in overtime at the buzzer, 92-95. Saturday, the won 94-76 over the Rattlers, with Jordan Simpson getting his second straight double-double.
Rustlers Soccer
Finally, the soccer teams wrapped their season in Fort McMurray Saturday and Sunday, with both teams getting swept by the Keyano Huskies. They begin training immediately for the futsal season.
What's Coming Up
This weekend will be one of the more quiet stretches of the ACAC season for Lakeland, with just two teams in action. Women's basketball and men's basketball are in action against the Concordia Thunder. Friday evening in the Lloyd Campus Gym begins at 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, before the teams travel to Edmonton on Saturday.
