Rustlers Women's Hockey kick off season
Women's hockey kick off their season this evening with a unique exhibition experience outside of the Border City.
The Rustlers play at 7:30 pm at the Vermilion Stadium and Arena, their first preseason action of the ACAC campaign. This is the only time Lakeland's hockey squad will play in Vermilion this season, so it is a must see for young hockey fans in the town.
Expectations are high again for the Rustlers, with several key players returning after their championship season in 2025. The team won 23 of 25 games in the regular season, managing to hit a record of 116 goals for the second straight season. They also scored a record 14 goals in the finals, which they won 3-1 over the RDP Queens.
Head Coach Morgan Mann said the group is eager to get on the ice.
"There's always lots of energy and excitement to the first game of a new season!"
In this friendly, the women's team faces the 18U AAA PWM Steelers, Lloydminster's premier girls' hockey club, providing both a chance at great competition for the Steeler players and continued connection between the Rustler and girls hockey in the region. They will have a rematch in Lloydminster Sunday afternoon.
"We are thrilled to be playing a a game in Vermilion against the Steelers," Mann said. "The Vermilion community supports both of our teams in many ways!"
All Lakeland College Students with a valid student ID will receive free admission at the gate.
The women's hockey team have their home opener at the Cenovus Energy Hub on Oct. 3 against the Queens.
